Path to College Announces New Board Members

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Path to College Foundation (PTC) today announced two new board members who will support the nonprofit’s goal to improve low-income students’ access to opportunities for leadership growth, career development, and a debt-free higher education.

Rebecca Miller, Founder & President at MPLD Consulting, is a true visionary. She is a firm believer that success stems from building meaningful relationships. Rebecca not only empowers those around her, but she is determined to help them find their voices, develop their talents, and discover their purpose. This commitment to remove barriers and uplift others is foundational to the PTC mission.

Steve Shnider, Sr. Director at Florida Power & Light, recently led the transformation of the digital customer experience at FPL.com and on the FPL mobile app. His ingenuity and passion for creating impactful and sustainable long-term strategies will expand the PTC mission and network.

Path to College selects tenacious, low-income students to complete a rigorous, three-year academic fellowship. These Fellows, the majority being first-generation college-goers, are paired with a mentor, receive targeted tutoring, and are given guidance throughout the college application process. The end goal is admittance into top-tier schools without the burden of crippling student loan debt.

The results have been nothing short of remarkable; sixty percent of PTC graduates qualifying for Florida’s Bright Futures scholarships, seventy percent garnering full-ride offers, and seventy-five percent attending top-tier institutions.

“On behalf of the board and our team, I want to express our gratitude to Rebecca and Steve. We all can raise our expectations about what talented kids from poverty can achieve once given the chance,” says Christine Sylvain, Founder and Executive Director of PTC. “We should not expect or accept lower performance just because a student comes from a low-income community.”
